Sheldon's New Community Center

The building that used to be Mel's Country Grocery has been converted to the Sheldon Community Center. Volunteers have spent the last two months creating a kitchen in the back room and redoing the main area room.

The cost to rent the building will be $50 payable to STH Sheldon Community Center.  (STH=Save The Hens which is the parent organization that has allowed us to apply for grants.) To rent the Community Center contact Harold or Alice Marie Krueger at 701-437-3527.

Below is a brief discription, as well as a few pictures, of the project.

  • This view from the front of the building shows the changes in the main room and the wall between the two rooms.  A serving counter has been opened up necessitating the moving of the doorway and then a smaller opening for a pass through for dirty dishes, or any other purpose that it can serve.  This also shows the graduation pictures that have been placed along the ceiling line on three walls of the area that had been in the school building.

  • This photo shows the sink area where a triple sink has been installed as well as the small hand washing sink that was part of the original store.  Two of the three refrigerators have been placed in the center around the big support pole that was in the original building.

  • The next picture shows the shelving that has been built under the open window serving counter as well as another counter along the east wall.  The stainless steel table is also from the original store.

  • This view shows the main area again, but up front the series of pictures under the Senior pictures is where the veterans pictures are put on display.

  • This picture shows the stove area on the north wall.  The shelving on the west wall is part of the original store and now holds the original Sheldon newspapers that had been at the school building.
